life at camp rocks!

Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls San Diego is a weeklong day camp where girls ages 8-17 use music as a powerful way to communicate and collaborate while being guided by inspirational female mentors.

In one week, campers form bands, write an original song, learn an instrument and perform live. Each day kicks off in a rock star celebration with high energy and hilarious yet educational skits by our talented and dedicated mentors. Sessions consist of group instrument instruction, which each camper has been assigned for the week and a workshop. Workshops at camp may include designing and screen-printing camper band t-shirts, songwriting, self-defense, image and identity, media literacy, community impact and more! At lunch, we are excited to welcome a guest artist to perform, talk about their work as a female in the music industry and take questions from campers. After lunch, campers will rehearse their band’s original song and prepare for their live performance (gig) at the end of the week. No music experience necessary!

instrument instruction

Campers choose an instrument to play: vocals, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, or drums. All levels of musical experience are welcome! Girls receive instruction from experienced female mentors. We provide the instruments or bring your own!

workshops

Our workshops build skills that encourage self expression. Examples of workshops are Songwriting, Self-Defense, Band Logos Design & Silk Screening T-shirts, History of Women in Music, Body Image & Identity, Media Literacy (mainstream magazines and advertisements are analyzed by campers), Drum Circle, Community Impact, and Zine Making.

Camper showcase

Their first gig!!! The girls get to perform their original songs in front of family, friends and the community at House of Blues San Diego.
Tickets are $10.00 for General Admission at the door.  Campers do not require a ticket for admission.

lunchtime performances

At lunchtime, local bands join the girls for music and inspiration. To strengthen visibility of female artists on a variety of instruments, we require bands be female-majority in make-up. The girls just might even see their own band coach rockin' out!
